WHAT IS TPM (TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE)?

TPM means putting together a practical shop-floor system to prevent losses ( 16 major losses) before they occur throughout the entire production system’s life cycle: Zero Breakdowns, Zero Accidents  and Zero Defects

Losses reduction is achieved  through implementing  8 Pillar activities of TPM

8 Pillars

Purpose

Individual Improvement

Realize zero losses of all types, such as failure losses, defect losses etc &  Demonstrate ultimate production efficiency improvement

Planned Maintenance

Reduce Breakdown & improve Availability, Improve Reliability & Maintainability &

Autonomous Maintenance

Develop the concept of ‘I operate, I maintain”, Develop function competent operator

Quality Maintenance

Reduce Customers complaints, Quality assurance at each sub-process.
Reduce/eliminate defects from all equipments & processes.

Education & Training

Develop equipment & function competent operator and maintenance personnel & Impart multi skills

Health & Safety

Zero accidents, Occupational Health Environment, Improvement in ambient air & water

Office TPM

Achieve zero function losses, Creation of efficient offices, Implementation of service support functions for production departments (On time delivery of

Development Management

Reducing product development and prototyping time, Reducing the development, design and fabrication

TPM Aims At

1)Improves  Human  Resources

Educate and foster employees so that they can respond to the needs of FA  (Factory Automation) by

          (1) Operator                   : Ability to perform “Autonomous Maintenance”

          (2) Maintenance man     : Ability to perform high-quality  maintenance

          (3) Production engineer : Ability to execute maintenance - free equipment plan

2) Improves  Plant Equipment

         (1) Attain efficiency through revamping of the existing equipment

         (2) Life Cycle Cost (LCC) – considering design of new equipment and minimizing their run-up time

TPM Benefits

1. O.E.E. Increase

2. Breakdown Reduction

3. Defect Reduction

4. Accident Reduction

5. Cost Reduction

6. 100% Delivery

7. Improved Morale
