Research Summary

Wally Hopp’s research focuses on the design, analysis and management of value chains involved in delivering products to customers. He is the co-developer of factory physics, which represents a scientific framework for lean manufacturing and supply chain management. He has recently been working to extend this principles-based approach to develop methods for making supply chain systems more robust to various forms of risk. In another line of research, he has studied the interface between operations management and organizational behavior. He has made use of emerging tools of social network analysis, along with traditional methods of stochastic analysis to study methods for designing and managing agile workforce systems. Finally, he is making use of concepts from operations management, marketing and economics to develop advanced tools for supporting new product.
